Wat Rong Khun also known as the White Temple among foreigners is designed and built by Ajarn Chalermchai Kositpipat. His wish is to have people all the world to visit the White Temple and admire his art through this masterpiece, like how they visit the Taj Mahal and Angkor Wat.
Wat Rong Khun is different from all other temples you see in Thailand. It incorporates modern art with traditional Buddhist elements, which makes it contemporary yet not forgetting the original pieces from a traditional buddhist temple. Cleverly use of colours and elements such as shimmering mosaics, mirrors, the temple stands out elegantly during sunrise and sunset and reflects clearly on the lake.
The most popular spot within the compound is the famous “Golden Toilet”. It’s painted in
gold, with very fine craftsmanship of Thai elements, provides a luxury space to release, and to relax (free admission).
It’s worth a visit, when you are in Chiangmai or Chiangrai as Wat Rong Khun is located in between Chiangmai and Chiangrai.
