Singapore is very good at preserving heritage buildings amidst the advancement of the city. There are many places in the city where one can see heritage buildings being maintained at a perfect shape, be it a hotel, bar or cafe.
Among the modern skyscraper, these heritage buildings stand out. The juxtaposition of the new building in the background and the stretch of local hybrid shophouses in the foreground is a good example.
These shophouses have been turned into a local hotel chain “Hotel 81” in the heart of China Town.
Traditional architecture in Singapore includes vernacular Malay houses, local hybrid shophouses and black and white bungalows, a range of places of worship reflecting the ethnic and religious diversity of the city-state as well as colonial civic and commercial architecture in European Neoclassical, gothic, palladian and renaissance styles. – Know Your Singapore Heritage Buildings
